What is Proprietary Food?

Proprietary food, is an food article which is non-standardized under some regulations and some food not included in it. Proprietary food comprised of basic ingredients and generic additives, according to the FSSAI regulations. Some of the food products are energy drinks, milk related products and so on.

The food business operator must  licensed for producing and selling the proprietary foods in India under the Food Safety and Standard Authority of the India.

  • FSSAI license/registration is mandatory for production of proprietary food.

  • No limitation for production capacity, and doesn’t affect the requirement of Central FSSAI license for proprietary food.

Validation period of FSSAI license

  • License can be issued and it valid from 1 to 5 years as it depends on the option picked by food business operator. 

  • Always remember, that the license should be renewed best before the 30 days from actual expiring date.

  • Perhaps, the license cannot be renewed, that can be charged Rs.100 per day until renewal process is finished.

  • The old license can be deactivated, in case of any lapse in renewal within the stipulated date and the operator have to apply new license.
