Food Marketing and Technology: How FMCG Brands are taking gaming to another leve
Food and Gaming? What is the connection? Are we missing out on something? Well, the increasingly trending world of online and video gaming has given a chance to all the businesses out there a new array of marketing and advertising strategies. The FMCG sector in particular has caught my limelight as they have so creatively developed new food product marketing strategies that it actually is genius!
This can be understood by the following case studies:
Developing
new and better food product marketing
strategies is not
easy because it is an extremely generic market and the sector has to focus on
the fair cost of the product to maintain stable pricing with its competitors.
So, more and more low-cost and innovative ideas like this one has been
constantly applied by FMCG companies to gain traction and focus of the target
audience. The following examples will definitely ring a bell
- Nintendo Cereal
- GrubHub’s
partnership with Ubisoft for Just Dance 2017: It was a campaign that asked
users to create a doorbell delivery dance and the users were invited to
use a special Just Dance code at checkout for a chance to win the game.
- Mountain Dew’s
collaboration with World of Warcraft, Call Of Duty, and Halo and offering
limited-time flavors and special offers.
- Taco Bell and
PlayStation’s relationship have lasted since Playstation 3 was launched. They are known for giveaways and
recently a pop-up Playstation VR Arcade
- Pizza Hut teamed
up with Youtuber FlawlessCowboy and Microsoft to launch Halo 4 stuffed
crust pizza for the launch of Halo 4
- Gamer Grub
produces an array of snack foods designed to be eaten out of a pouch and they claim that they are
full of vitamins and neurotransmitters to increase performance. The brand
has even partnered with the world champion in eSports, Jonathan “Fatal1ty”
Wendel to promote their products.
- Doritos Mix
offered a sweepstake to win various gaming prizes like Xbox One, Xbox Live
memberships, copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops III, VR headset by Samsung,
and much more.
- Quest Bar was the
first non-endemic sponsor to Robert Morris University’s eSports program.
- Totino’s Pizza
Rolls teamed up with Sega for its 25th anniversary of “Sonic the Hedgehog” at
Comic-Con in San Diego in 2015.
